Flint and steel was the dominant method for starting fires in many parts of the world for around 2,000 years. This compact flint and steel set contains everything you need to start a fire the traditional way.
This miniature kit contains a robust striker made from recycled antique tool steel. The file grooves on the flat sides provide exceptional grip compared to most strikers. No skinned knuckles this time!
Also included is one piece of genuine Danish Flint, known for its durability and beauty. The kit includes a square of processed amadou from the horsehoof tinder fungus and length of jute cord. All of this is held in a small 2” x 3” leather pouch with a long leather drawstring.
Use the sharp edge of the flint to fluff up one edge of the amadou. Place the amadou directly on top of the flint and hold it down with your thumb. Use a fast, glancing blow of the striker to shave off small pieces of steel, allowing the resulting sparks to drop onto the amadou. When the amadou begins smoking, place it into a bundle of the fluffed up jute twine and blow into flame.
