Goodbye Norma Jean
Photomontage by Dug North
My second ever, made in 1993 (no Adobe Photoshop -- I hadn't heard of it -- just a Xacto knife and glue).
This is perhaps my favorite. I can't decided between this and Some Days are Better than Others.
The colors of the bone-yard just go well with Marilyn Monroe's tones. Her playful pose is so wrong for the scene -- something like how tourists pose for snapshots in
front of historcal sites where awful things once happened.
I guess there are other levels to think about too: her short life, her life as a photograph, weight issues, our obsession with fashion in the midst of more serious matters.
